Australian wellness and food influencer Stacey Hatfield also known by her married name Stacey Warnecke died on September 29, 2025, just hours after giving birth to her son, Axel, following what authorities are calling an “extremely rare complication.” Known online for her “low tox” lifestyle, healthy recipes and natural-living advice under the brand Natural Spoonfuls, Hatfield had shared her joy at becoming a mother and had built a modest but loyal follower base on social media.
According to her husband, Nathan Warnecke, the birth itself proceeded smoothly at their home in Melbourne. Hatfield held and nursed baby Axel shortly after delivery, fulfilling a lifelong dream of motherhood. But soon afterwards, severe complications emerged. She was rushed to hospital after what was described as an unforeseen medical crisis; there, despite efforts by doctors and an emergency hysterectomy, she suffered multiple cardiac arrests and was unable to be revived. The medical cause was identified as a postpartum hemorrhage — a massive and deadly loss of blood following childbirth.
Hatfield’s death has left her husband and newborn son grappling with a heartbreak no parent should face. In a public tribute on Instagram, Warnecke described his late wife as his “soul mate and best friend.” He recalled their long relationship of nine years, their wedding less than a year ago, and how she had been happiest during her pregnancy. He wrote that she had told their son daily during those months how much she loved him, and that holding Axel at birth had been the moment she had waited for her whole life.
The sudden news stunned Hatfield’s community followers of Natural Spoonfuls, colleagues in the wellness sphere, and those who knew her through her online presence. Many have expressed shock and grief. The tragedy has also re-ignited conversations on maternal health, the risks of homebirths, and the unpredictable nature of childbirth complications even in what appear to be healthy, well-prepared mothers.
Following her passing, friends and supporters launched a fundraiser to aid Nathan as he navigates parenthood alone and copes with grief while caring for newborn Axel. The campaign aims to help with funeral costs, household expenses, baby supplies and the time Nathan may need off work to parent and heal.
Hatfield’s career as a “low tox” advocate began years ago when she launched Natural Spoonfuls. She promoted clean eating, natural ingredients, and simple living offering recipes, nutrition tips, and a vision of wellness free from processed foods and unnecessary chemicals. Through her work on social media and her content-creation company, she had inspired many to rethink their approach to food and health.
Her death casts a harsh spotlight on a deeply uncomfortable reality: childbirth remains a significant risk for women, even in 2025, even for those who are healthy, well-informed, and seemingly safe. In the wake of her passing, many are urging greater awareness, better maternal care, and honest conversations about postpartum risks especially for home births without full medical supervision. Hatfield’s story has become part of a wider narrative questioning how much control we really have over childbirth, and how a moment of joy can so swiftly turn into tragedy.
In remembering Stacey Hatfield, her husband described her as kind, caring, hardworking and fearless. He said that she lived with purpose, teaching others how to care for their bodies and families through her lifestyle brand and that motherhood had been the fulfillment of everything she had worked for. Now her legacy continues through her son, Axel, and the memories she leaves behind.
