Beauty influencer and YouTuber Jaclyn Hill, 34, has opened up about her recent weight loss journey, detailing her experiences with GLP-1 medications, the challenges she faced, and her decision to prioritize health over aesthetics.
Hill revealed that over the past year, she had tried various diets and exercise routines, including keto, animal-based diets, heavy lifting, and walking 10,000 steps daily. Despite these efforts, she found it difficult to lose weight, leading to frustration and emotional distress. She expressed a desire to feel comfortable in her body, stating, "I just want to be in a tank top by mid-spring, summer. That is all I want."
After undergoing blood work that indicated hormonal imbalances, Hill's doctor recommended she start on a GLP-1 medication, a class of drugs that includes semaglutide, commonly known by brand names like Ozempic. Initially, she microdosed the medication with little success but later switched to a different GLP-1, which led to significant weight loss. Over three months, she lost more than 20 pounds.
While the medication aided in weight loss, Hill experienced several side effects, including nausea, headaches, mild dizziness, and a complete loss of appetite. She described the experience as challenging, noting that her love for food diminished, and eating became unenjoyable. Despite these difficulties, she emphasized that the medication was a last resort and not a decision made lightly.
Having reached her goal weight, Hill decided to discontinue the injections to avoid becoming overly reliant on the medication. She expressed pride in recognizing when to stop and emphasized her desire to focus on building strength and muscle definition. Hill's journey underscores the importance of listening to one's body and making health-conscious decisions.
